This paper presents an analysis of the one-act play «Two in the Dark» written in 2000 by the contemporary Russian playwright Mikhail Bartenev in collaboration with Alexei Slapovsky. The dramatic story on which the play is based is perceived by us in the national and time framework. Based on the material of this play, we examine the genesis of the national and multicultural conflict and the possible way of forming a tolerant consciousness. The author of the article states that «the need to accept» the Other is the main motive, which finds its embodiment in the play and, accordingly, reflects the position of its authors.
