The author presents her observations on the existence of modern oral narratives about monasteries, generalizes their thematic structure in the form of narrative cycles that reveal the people's view of the past, present and future of the monastery. The research is based on the materials of folklore expeditions of the Nizhny Novgorod State University. The author establishes a connection between the stories about monasteries and the stories and imagery of the folk non-fairy prose genres (folk tales, legends), as well as ancient Russian stories about churches and icons.
