The article proposes a brief review of contemporary memory studies of the First World War in English historiography. One of the dominant trends is a detailed study of the past by involving into a dialogue the communities of combatants and artists, photographers and architects, writers and relatives of the fallen soldiers. The aim of this dialogue is to maintain a balance and a semantic tension between history and memory. |
