The article considers the issue of the hero's prototype in Sukhbat Aflatuni's trilogy «Adoration of the Magi» (the novel «Melchior»). Particular attention is paid to the concepts of «prototype» and «literary hero». The semantics of the name is analyzed, the connection with Andrei Bely's biography is revealed on the basis of the poet's autobiographical trilogy and the reminiscences of his contemporaries (Z. Gippius, N. Otsup, I. Ehrenburg), the role of the character in the plot and the composition is established. As a result of the analysis, it is concluded that the trilogy creates an image that harmoniously combines fictional features and some traits of a real person.
