The article reviews the stylistic patterns of voice-over narration of the feature motion picture «Under the Sign of Scorpio» (Russian original title - «Под знаком скорпиона») - currently, the most comprehensive biographical film about the life of Maxim Gorky. The motion picture presentation of the post-revolutionary life of Gorky is based on the script, which reconceptualizes and compiles historical and literary documents related to the writer's life. The study is based on the script of the film (written by Alexander Lapshin), literary sources referred to directly or indirectly by the voice-over narration, as well as other sources cited but not named in the film construct. Determining the specific features of the voice-over narration provided foundation for their subsequent classification according to functions they fulfil in the film discourse: inconspicuousness, text as author’s opinion, emotional breadth.
