The article presents an analysis of the image of France, which was formed in the minds of its readers by Russian pre-revolutionary journalists on the pages of the periodical «The Chronicle of the War of 1914-1917» during the first years of the First World War. In the framework of this study, France appears as an ally of the Russian Empire, ready to fully adhere to its obligations in the struggle against the countries of the Triple Alliance. This research is based on the study of more than 60 issues of this periodical. This article may be useful to all those who are interested in the history of World War I and in the history of Russian journalism of the early 20th century.
