The article examines the issue of periodization of Russian historical science. A historical continuity of the historiographical periodization schemes of the 19th - 20th centuries is traced, similarities and differences of the approaches to this problem solution are shown. A critical analysis is given of some approaches to the periodization of the history of historical science that were developed during the Soviet period. In conclusion, a new scheme for the periodization of Russian historical science is presented and substantiated.
