Objects of research are coins with the image of Helios on the obverse, issued at the end of the II century BCE in Gorgippia, in Chersonesus, and by the king Saumakos. We believe that they were minted by issuers who voluntarily recognized the authority of Mithridates VI Eupator Dionysus. The study of these coins made it possible to trace the stages of the formation of the Pontic protectorate in Taurica and in the Northern Black Sea Region. |
