The authors consider the archetype «Blue flower» and some aspects of this symbol in German literature. It is argued that in German culture it is not only part of the imagery in the novel by Novalis and a symbol of Romanticism, but it also has an ancient folk and mythical basis, which feeds it and fills with additional meanings. «Blue flower» also allows one to take a fresh look at the German-language cult novel «Perfume: The Story of a Murderer» by P. Suskind. Tracing the history of the «Blue flower» archetype and its interpretation in various literary works, the authors conclude that this archetype is one of the national cultural codes of German literature.
