Abstract
The author examines the influence of stereotyped forms of thinking on the phenomenon of negative ethnonymization in the U.S.A. through the structural semantic prism. Methods of geographically stratified and ethnically stratified sampling from such lexicographic sources as online dictionaries dictionary.com, lingvo.ru, The Free Dictionary, Urban Dictionary and the electronic database of the derogatively marked ethnonyms "The Racial Slur Database" are used. To disclose the content potential of ethnonyms used for the nomination of U.S. residents, a clear structural and semantic pattern of derogatively labeled ethnonyms has been developed. With this pattern, it is possible to distinguish the most frequently used sources and ways of word formation of ethnonyms. The developed structural and semantic pattern supports the thesis that stereotyping is a powerful factor of formation, distribution and functioning of the derogatively marked ethnonyms in modern American English.
