Abstract
The aim of the article is to study the role of spatial aspects of Herodian’s representation of political processes in the Roman Empire under the last Antonins and the Severans. The results of the study have shown that the references in Herodian’s work to the territorial, cultural and geographical specifics of the various parts of the Empire are used by the author to determine the origins and nature of the civil confrontation in Rome during the transition of power to the Severans. At the same time, the conceptual role of spatial categories in covering the activities of Roman emperors and candidates for this post is revealed.
