The article deals with the types of verbs connoting negative consequences of action. The aim of the article is to explore the semantic, functional and stylistic characteristics of such verbs. In the course of investigation, we used the methods of observation, description, functional and stylistic analysis. It was established that these verbs always express a combination of meanings, since the negative consequences of an action are caused by its excessive intensity or duration. The semantic markers of intensity, duration and negative consequences were determined. All the modes of action of the verbs under analysis were allocated in the field of negative consequences in accordance with the markers which correspond to their semantics, with the degree of explicitness of negative consequences, with the intensity and duration of action. Functional and stylistic characteristics of the verbs were examined using the examples of the verbs of excessive-frequentative and total modes of action.
