Abstract
The paper gives an analysis of the evolution of France’s legislative framework in the field of immigration during the presidency of Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the assimilation of immigrants became one of the main challenges for the French migration policy. It is important to note that the basic laws relating to migration regulation were adopted in the period from 2003 to 2012 during the presidency of representatives of the Gaullist movement Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy. The reforms were primarily related to the restriction of entry and residence of foreign citizens; gradually, the emphasis was shifting towards the development of the state integration policy, this became especially evident under the presidency of socialist Francois Hollande, who was forced to deal with the negative consequences of the influx of immigrants into the country, including the growth of the terrorist threat and socio-economic instability.
