The article presents the results of the study aimed to provide a comprehensive linguo-cognitive description of the conceptual content and the semantic scope of the concept «patriotism» in the national sphere of concepts and of the specific features of its language objectification in the Russian language. In this research, we use the methods of conceptual analysis elaborated by Lobachevsky State University scientists. The aim of the study is to analyze the peculiarities of the concept’s derivational realization. We identify the meanings of derived words contained in the family of words based on the lexeme patriot. The author concludes that word-formative explication of the concept «patriotism» verifies many of the 12 cognitive characteristics of the concept revealed earlier and specifies their conceptual content.
