Abstract
The article analyzes the features of fiction time in the works of the famous English writer A. Carter. The purpose of this study is to reveal the specific features of the author's understanding of the temporality problem that was raised by the writer in many of her novels, such as «Nights at the Circus», «Wise Children», «The Passion of New Eve», «The Magic Toyshop». We also consider the functions of the image of clocks as a symbol of time in the literary text. To examine the linear and cyclical concepts of time in the works of the English writer, a comparative method was used. An analysis is presented of the theories that explain gender specificity of temporal constructions. It is revealed that the writer builds atypical models of time that combine cyclic nature and monumentality, the imaginary and the real. She does it not only from the standpoint of feminism to limit the influence of linear schemes on historical development, but also to create a space of freedom for her characters. The main condition for achieving this freedom is deconstruction of the opposition «beginning/end».
