The article considers some specific features of the functioning of media neologisms based on precedent phenomena. The author analyzes word-formation risk factors such as: superfluous or deficient informativity of occasional words as part of transformed precedent texts and increased level of derivative words’ expressiveness. It is noted that the following occasional word-formation methods are widely used in modern press: substitutive derivation, compounding, word formation using specific samples of non-typical structure.
