In this article, we give a description of the modern nicknames of Komi-Permyaks motivated by the lexicon of the thematic field “Animal World”. It has been revealed that: 1) more than 200 (out of 900) nicknames are derived from 125 lexemes of this field that make part of 15 lexical-semantic groups; 2) the names of mammals, as well as birds and fishes are the most frequent; they include mainly the names of the domestic animals or the objects for hunting or fishing; it is the vocabulary associated with the household and economic activities of nominators; 3) the anthroponyms are derived more often from nouns, rarely - from adjectives, and in very few cases - from interjections and onomatopoeia; 4) structurally, these are single-root words or combinations of words; 5) the nicknames are mostly individual, the collective ones are few in number; 6) the nicknames reflect the actual state of the Komi-Permian language. Conclusions are made about the linguistic-cultural marking of the animalistic vocabulary and the linguistic informativity of the nicknames.
