We study the Russian language mentality by constructing a field model of the semanteme «earth» based on the analysis of Russian proverbs. This field model represents the stereotypical ideas of the Russians about the earth and its role in human life. The invariant (microtext) of the use of these units in paremiology is created by analysing the semantics of these units, the characteristics of their use, and comparing value judgments recorded in the meanings of words, stable expressions, and semantic-structural organization of proverbs. The resulting model reveals the value content of the semantemes that provide the basis for creating cultural stereotypes. The structure of the model is based on linking oppositions, which fix important synonymous and antonymic links. When analyzing the value component of a semanteme, its polar assessment potential is revealed, on the basis of which stable mental links are formed (the earth is the mother, the protector, which must be preserved; it yields a rich harvest; it needs careful hands and much labor).
