The article discusses the mythical tradition of Orpheus in the 16th-century Italy. The aim of the article is to show how Orpheus transformed from the stereotypical mythological figure of the 15th century into the iconic image of the Quinquecento epoch and became a mythograph. For this purpose, an analysis of the methods and methodological approaches to the study of the image of Orpheus, as well as an analysis of the source and historiographic base were performed. It is concluded that most changes in the depiction of Orpheus occurred in the framework of the possibilities offered by the existing complex of myths.
