The article presents an analysis of the image of Belgium, which was created by Russian pre-revolutionary journalists on the pages of the periodical «The Chronicles of the 1914-1917 War» in the first years of the First World War (1914-1915). In this study, Belgium appears to be a freedom-loving state, faithful to its international obligations, which had to wage a just national liberation war against the aggressor - the German Empire. More than 50 issues of «The Chronicles...» were studied in the course of the work on this article, which may be useful to anyone who is interested in both the history of the First World War and the history of Western European states of the early 20th century.
