In this article, we study the Orthodox journalistic discourse at the current stage of the development of Russian linguistics. Noticeable Church influence on the life of Russian society is clearly manifested in Orthodox mass media, which make up a sizable proportion of the Russian media. Orthodox radio and TV, papers, magazines and their electronic versions, Internet-portals, blogs and other forms make an organic part in the context of topical social thought due to their openness and special moral mission. We present a classification of functions of the religious journalistic genre and examine its sphere of concepts and some other issues. According to latest studies of discourse, one should distinguish between Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant and other types of discourse, and to be more precise - subdiscourses within the confines of religious Christian discourse. There remain some issues that still need special research: specific features of speech genres functioning in religious discourse, distinguishing features and intertextual characteristics of lexical-phraseological means of Orthodox communication, the system of main religious concepts, religious discourse elitism, etc.
