One of the most efficient ways of information transfer in the Russian language is clipping. Clipping is a common derivation pattern, which is often used to form nominations of people. The objectives of the study are as follows: a) to identify new truncated units in lexicographic sources (dictionaries of new words and meanings), National Corpus of the Russian Language, and mass media; b) to identify clipping types and associated morphonological processes; c) to identify onomasiologic features of derivates, i.e. what patterns are used for nominating particular human features or traits; d) to identify the purposes of using clippings by language speakers today. The study shows that a) clipping is a productive derivation means that created new human nominations in the Russian language during the period from 1960 to 2016; b) clipping is formed by means of apocope and apheresis; c) new words are semantically diverse and belong to 14 onomasiological groups; d) new agentives are used by language speakers in order to nominate people and to give them assessments.
