The article describes non-alphabetic graphic marks which model correlative and alternative notions without the conjunctions and, or . The methods of functional, comparative and contextual analysis are used. On the basis of the scientific, journalistic and belles-lettres literature, 14 variants of modelling the correlative notions friend-foe are identified, the usage of the most common marks (dash, hyphen, slash) is analysed, the recommendations how to exercise these marks are given. In accordance with the analysis of the slash’s functions, the author classifies it as a punctuation mark. The hyphen’s functions in the text are also examined and the conclusion is made that the hyphen can be treated as a punctuation mark only when its disjunctive function is actualized by a set of other punctuation marks.
