The author analyzes the representation of kinship relations in «autobiographical» pieces of Gregory of Tours’ writings («History of the Franks», «Life of the Fathers», etc.), with the aim to clarify their expressive and functional features. Specific nature of evidence about the ecclesiastical writer’s own relatives are displayed in the light of data concerning kindred ties of other characters of «History of the Franks», «Life of the Fathers» and other works of the Bishop of Tours. An attempt is made to discern the particular aspects of self-perception, as well as strategies of self-determination and self-representation that Gregory of Tours employed.
