Based on the recollections of the Soviet military personnel who served in Angola in the 1970s-1980s, various aspects of Soviet-Cuban cooperation on the African continent are analyzed. Data from historical sources make it possible to track the extent of bilateral cooperation, its chronology and nature, suggest that Soviet-Cuban assistance to the MPLA was one of the decisive factors in its victory in the struggle for power. The cooperation of the USSR and Cuba on Angolan soil turned out to be productive in military-political terms, contributed to the establishment of intercultural communication between peoples, formed an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding between representatives of the two countries. The transformation of Angola into a Cold War arena delayed the possibility of a peaceful conflict settlement and contributed to its more protracted and violent nature.
