The article shows the development of relations between the Minister of War V.A. Sukhomlinov and the trigger-happy politician M.M. Andronikov. An anonymous letter that was actually authored by M.M. Andronikov is introduced into scientific discourse. This letter was addressed to Empress Maria Feodorovna. The letter said that V.A. Sukhomlinov began to resort to bribes to satisfy his wife's whims. The article analyzes the content of this document. The dating of the letter and the authenticity of information contained in it are defined.
