The author has carried out a comparative historical analysis of the source base on the activities of French military attach?s in Russia in connection with the uprising of the Czechoslovak Legion. Based on archival documents (first of all, previously unpublished documents from the Archive of the French Defence Historical Service), it was concluded that there are no proofs of French control over the actions of Czechoslovak soldiers against the Bolsheviks in May 1918. In view of the need for reinforcements on the Western Front in winter and spring of 1918, the main purpose of France was to transport the Czechoslovak military personnel to Europe.
