The article deals with the tradition of studying antique rings and insets with images. In the era of the early Iron Age, the Northern Black Sea region became a place of settlement and contacts of nomadic and settled peoples, that is why such items as insets were often not divided into monuments of Greek or barbaric origin and were studied in the context of their belonging to the same territory. The author attempts to systematize the predecessors’ works and to combine them in two time periods, reflecting the development of interest and methods of study.
