An analysis of basic forensic prerequisites for effective law enforcement in the context of crime investigation activities is presented. The components of the culture of forensic thinking as the basis for making optimal methodological and tactical decisions are identified. A new concept of «criminal reality» is introduced and its content is characterized. The author notes the mutual influence of forensic thinking and the process of qualification of the crime event being investigated. It is argued that forensic techniques should be comprehensive and versatile.
