The paper examines various theoretical approaches to the system of classification of forensic examinations and substantiates the practical importance of the classifier of forensic examinations. The place of the expert examination of the author's demographic characteristics in the system of classification of forensic examinations is determined. The need for differentiating between forensic linguistic and forensic authorship examinations is emphasized, and the practical significance of such differentiation for court proceedings is substantiated. A division of forensic authorship examination by types is proposed where forensic examination of the author’s demographic characteristics is considered as a subtype of forensic authorship diagnostic examination.
