The paper explores conceptual foundations, linguistic peculiarities and features of meaning-making in the avant-garde idiomatics. The aim of the study is to research alogism as one of the category features of the avant-garde idiomatics. The article defines the boundaries of the concept of «alogism» in phraseology and in the avant-garde artistic discourse, and also elaborates the concept of «alogical avant-garde idioms (proper)». Alogism, on the one hand, falls within the area of language anomaly and in this respect opposes the language norm. On the other hand, alogism underlies the process of meaning-making of the avant-garde idioms and, more broadly, of the avant-garde semiosis. The alogical avant-garde idioms are based on the cognitive mechanism of refocusing. Its peculiarity in the literary avant-garde consists in putting into focus occasional semantic components. As a result, the paper identifies certain methods of nomination which are involved in the formation of alogical avant-garde idioms, such as occasionalization and concretization, «intersemiotic transposition», occasionalization and enantiosemy, occasional avant-garde idioms-experiments, modification of «traditional» phraseological units.
