The article investigates the idiom of «Russian spirit» and the compound nomination «Russian character» in the modern Russian language. The aim is to characterize the semantic field of the units under consideration in the modern Russian language, to identify the specific features of their functioning in the context, to make a conclusion about the idiomaticity and synonymy of the language units «Russian spirit» and «Russian character». The research aims to represent the semantic field of the above-mentioned idiom and compound nomination, to identify the essential characteristics and peculiarities of their use in the modern Russian language according to the data of the National corpus of the Russian language. Research methods used in this study included semantic analysis, contextual, corpus, and comparative methods.
