The article describes the main achievements of health care in Russia during the first decades of Soviet power. At the early stage of the development of prevention, the main focus of the health care authorities was on the fight against infectious diseases and their prevention. Accordingly, prevention methods such as vaccination, disinfection, quarantine were at the forefront of this work. At the same stage, however, other methods emerged, including preventive examinations, regular medical examinations, which later would take a leading place in the prevention of diseases. The role of the population and its public organizations in solving urgent problems of improving the state of health of the country's population and combating epidemics is shown. It is noted that advances in the field of microbiology and epidemiology made it possible to achieve sustainable well-being in the country's sanitary and epidemiological situation.
