This article addresses the phenomenon of the termination of the male monopoly for engaging in research in the field of jurisprudence, using the example of Anna Mikhailovna Evreinova, the first Russian woman to receive a Doctor of Law degree. The author aims to show that the realization by A.M. Evreinova of her professional potential in Russia took place largely due to the creation of a new type of scientific organizations - legal societies based on the principles of democracy and creative freedom. An analysis of A.M. Evreinova's works in the field of Russian customary law allows the author to conclude that she played a significant role in domestic legal science as a researcher who consistently defended the position of the practical value of Russian customary law for the legislator and the need for its careful study prior to the codification civil law.
