The article develops the concept of the ecological unconscious, the basic units of which are represented by ecological archetypes. It is demonstrated that the research of ecological archetypes is possible within ecolinguistics that applies the method of positive discourse analysis in search of harmonious stories-we-live-by, based on the unconscious. Archetypic algorithms are traced in paroemias which are means for the storage of human knowledge about the world order. The analysis of Russian, French and English paroemias containing bird images reveals the reflection of such ecological archetypes as the archetype of home, archetype of belonging to a clan, archetype of the universal law, archetypes of manhood and womanhood.
