The article discusses the semantic features of the usage of the term familia in the works of Gregory of Tours. The aim of the study is to clarify the perception of this term by the bishop of Tours regarding various ethnic and social groups of the Frankish kingdom in the 6th century. Suggestions are made about the possible causes of the transformation of the meaning of this term in the works under consideration. An attempt is made to discover the peculiarities of their functioning in works of various genres.
