The concept of «soft power» formulated by the American scientist Joseph Nye, professor at the Harvard Institute of Public Administration, is a classic concept within the framework of theories of international relations. It has been developed since the late 1980s under the influence of changing world political realities, taking into account the dominant interests of the United States. Like any new theory, the concept of «soft power» was developed in many works by J. Nye. This article attempts to review some of the critical approaches to this concept.
