The article uses an approach that is in line with the reference to the individual author's implementation of the language system in a literary text, which is relevant for modern linguistics. We present an analysis of I.A. Brodsky's poem «On the death of Zhukov». The aim of the article is to reveal the unobvious meanings of this text by means of linguistic hermeneutics. The direct subject of the analysis are the language means, which can be interpreted as an expression of the author's position in relation to the hero of the poem. The initial assumptions of the article are as follows: 1) a literary text allows for multiple interpretations; 2) the interpretative possibilities of linguistics allow us to significantly objectify the study of the text; 3) the main meaning of the text allows for an unambiguous reading. The article shows that the hermeneutic problem can arise in the simplest situation and be solved in the same simple way. The main result of the article is the following conclusion: in the light of linguistic hermeneutics, axiologically unipolar interpretations seem unconvincing. As an alternative, we offer our own solution.
