The article deals with the problematic issues of determining the identification period and the possibility of solving the identification task by traces on bullets exposed to the external environment. National and foreign developments based on experiments to assess the influence of various factors on the stability of the characteristics of weapon’s barrel on fired bullets which made of various materials are presented. The results of an experimental study to determine the identification period in the traces on fired bullets under conditions that mimic human soft tissue are shown.
