The article considers words called agnonyms that are used in journal texts in 2017-2019. The purpose of the article is to identify and describe the features of use, as well as the ways to explain the vocabulary incomprehensible to the addressee. Particular attention is paid to the terminological vocabulary, as well as to the foreign words and new abbreviations, including the foreign ones. The ways of interpreting agnonyms both in the headline complex and inside the text are revealed and described. It was found that in the headline complex agnonyms perform the function of intriguing the attention of the addressee. The intertextual use of agnonyms reflects their sense-forming function. It is argued that, in general, journal texts perform cognitive and educational functions.
