The article is the first in the series of research papers considering different aspects of speech actualization of the lexemes mentalitet and mental’nost’ ( mentality ) as representatives of the concept MENTALITET/MENTAL’NOST’ (MENTALITY). The object is to analyze semantic transformations of the lexeme mentalitet in the contexts of standard and non-usual genitive word-compatibility on the model of “Subst. + Subst. in Gen.” for further detection of peculiarities of its conceptual content and language objectification. The research materials are the data of Russian National Corpus. The work shows that the lexeme mentalitet is part of various cognitive models of military, building, technological etc. genitive metaphor. This fact confirms that the concept MENTALITET / MENTAL’NOST’ gets significant cultural elaboration in modern Russian native speakers’ communicative practice.
