Abstract
The paper considers the current state of Romano-British studies. It seems that after three decades of a heated debate over Romanization concept and re-thinking of the theoretical framework Romano-British scholarship reached the key point of the development. In general, the current state of the research can be denoted - cum grano salis - as a ‘left turn’ because of the apparent influence of the ideas and political views connected with left and liberal thought. The contemporary Romano-British studies deal with various social and economic aspects of the provincial history, consider the identities of the various groups and communities that constituted the ‘silent majority’ that is mostly ignored by written sources. Nevertheless, the traditional Romano-British narrative focused on political history and elites is still dominating the general overviews and popular books on the subject. It is necessary for Romano-British scholarship to create a new kind of narrative that will reflect the current state of research.
