Turgenev’s position in 1861-1881 on the peasant issue is considered. His perception of «19th February Conditions» and his economic activity in his own estates during the initial period of the reform are characterized. His vision of the results of peasant emancipation is represented. Turgenev’s program of supplementing the peasant reform in the early 1880s is analyzed in comparison with the proposals of the Liberals from «Vestnik Evropy» journal. An attempt was made to reveal the logic of changes in Turgenev’s economic views.
