The article deals with the question of the influence of a language games to the linguistic politeness. Direct survey among the native speakers of the Russian language is described and proposed as a research methodology. Examples of a language game at the phonetic and syntactic levels serve as a material for research. It’s results describe stable patterns of interpretation and assessment of the language game and it’s impact on the linguistical politeness. Findings include factors that contribute to enhancing the politeness of speech through language play (the degree of intimacy of the communicators; humor and the allowance of it in a conversation with particular communicant; the originality of the verbal form made with the help of a language game) and a decrease in politeness (sarcasm, ridicule, humor and the allowance of it in a conversation with particular communicant; association of the use of a language game with saving time when it’s not appropriate; inability to decipher the language game). The study also provides methodological recommendations for further research on the relationship between language game and politeness, and points the possible research goals.
