Since the 1980s the European Union has taken a more in-depth approach to viewing of the educational issues in the European Community. Over time education has become an important component of the European Union's policy agenda to address domestic and global challenges, such as youth unemployment, social exclusion, discrimination and migration. In this article, the authors highlight the main stages of the evolution of the European Union's policy in the field of education and in terms of educational programs that have a wide cross-border application.
