Abstract
The relevance of the article is associated with the need to attract new sources, especially visual ones, into historical research from the standpoint of interdisciplinary approaches to individual problems and plots. As such sources, the article considers popular prints with Baba Yaga and the peculiarities of the image of the characters in them in terms of the historical context. According to the purpose of the study, a comparison of the image of Baba Yaga from popular prints with the image from fairy tales to analyze the reflection of historical and social realities in them was made. It was concluded that the appearance and attributes of Baba Yaga, the heroine of the popular prints, were borrowed from fairy tales, but the character was placed in an atypical context for him. It is suggested that the reason for this lies in the specifics of popular prints, which, reflecting historical realities, were often satirical in nature, which determines the features of the depiction of the characters, as well as the set of situations in which they appear.
