Abstract
The study of children in the context of their social environment is a current trend in the historiography of Roman childhood. The most complicated issues in these studies (due to the scarcity of surviving evidence) include everyday life as well as the processes of growing up and socialization of the children who dwelt in the Roman military community. In this paper, which is based on the analysis of epigraphic and iconographic sources, the social categories of children who dwelt among the soldiers are identified. Besides, the parents’ expectations in relation to a child are defined.
