Abstract |
The article discusses the question of how the research on the history of the concept of subjective rights can contrib- ute to the discussion on the liberty of ancients compared with that of moderns, in which these two types of liberty are differentiated according to the criterion of the presence or absence of individual rights. Based on two contemporary studies, it is argued that historical analysis can only supplement the normative discussion of controversial concepts, but not replace it.
