Abstract
The article examines the problem of reflecting the family ties of the armenian princes clans with the ruling dynasty of Arshakids in the work of the 5th century historian Movses Khorenatsi “History of Armenia”. This issue is of particu- lar importance in the context of the problem of the weakening of the Armenian kingdom at the end of the 4th century against the background of the growing confrontation between the Roman Empire and Sassanian Iran in the region. The sharp rise in the ethnic identity of Armenians, observed after 387, the year when the Armenian kingdom was abolished and divided between the Roman Empire and Sassanid Iran, contributed to the fact that the noble Nakhararian families of Suni, Mamikonyan and Bagratuni began to actively fight not only against the invaders for the liberation of territories , but also among themselves for the right to lead the restored kingdom. In this vein, noble nakharars will use family ties with the last representatives of the Arshakid dynasty as one of the instruments of political struggle and justification of their legitimate rights to the throne.
