The purpose of the study is to determine the socio-political factors that influenced the legislative process in England in the 19th - early 20th centuries, and to identify the dynamics of the development of legislation on women's rights. The genesis of the ideology of gender equality in English political and legal thought is highlighted and the connection with the development of the feminist movement is reflected. The legal principle of «absorption» of the legal capacity of a married woman and the factors that led to its legislative abolition are characterized. On the basis of the comparative legal method, changes in the legislation on the property rights of women are analyzed in connection with their obtaining the right to vote, the evolutionary-stage dynamics of this process is determined.
